Warehouse complex proposed for Peterborough
Developers are trying to convince residents in Peterborough that a new warehouse complex would be good for local businesses and employment.
The Peterborough Evening Telegraph reported that Gazeley is planning a £500 million rail-based warehouse hub in the region, but that some residents have complained about the plan.
As a result, the developer is now attempting to persuade local homeowners that the four million square feet facility will help the region develop.
Planning director Don Morgan explained to the paper: "We have absolutely nothing to hide. The residents have asked a number of questions and we want to answer them all."
To do this, the company will be send letters to 6,000 homes close to the proposed site.
"We won't win every- one over but we feel this is the right and proper thing to do to give residents as much information as possible."
It is expected that the warehouse facility will provide space for both large and small wholesalers, as well as other businesses. Plans call for it to be built to high environmental standards and estimates suggest the site, which will link to local rail services, will remove 75,000 lorries from the roads each year.
